The research
7,585 reviews. Same complaint, every week.
I read every one. People keep asking for the same things: reminders that arrive, a photo timeline that survives a phone swap, a way to pause everything when they go on holiday. And they want to pay once instead of forever.

Last update · 4 May 2026
I’ve bought four plant apps in five years. Each one turned into a subscription trap or quietly stopped sending reminders after an iOS update. So I’m building the one I actually want to use - and pay for once.
No team behind me. No marketing department. No investor with a hockey-stick spreadsheet. Just me, Greenroot, and a houseplant collection.

Yes. The whole reason this exists is that subscriptions in this category are broken. You buy v1 once. Future big updates will be paid upgrades you can opt into - never auto-renewing, never required. If I ever change that, you keep the original price.
Roughly what a houseplant costs. Less than 6 months of Greg, more than the £4.99 App Store anchor that signals low effort. Pre-orders pay £4.99 because committing to a stranger’s app deserves a discount.
You get a full refund. One click, no questions. The pre-order is held until launch. If I bail, the money goes back. If I ship, you get early access 4 weeks before launch and a founding-member badge.
Target [TARGET MONTH]. The build is 8 weeks once validation hits its target. I’ll email you the day early access opens and again the day the App Store listing goes public.
PictureThis, PlantNet, and iNaturalist are all free or near-free and identify plants better than I could. Use them once when you bring a plant home. Then use Greenroot to keep it alive. I'm not trying to be a worse version of an app you already have.
On your phone. iCloud keeps it in sync between your iPhone and iPad - that part is encrypted by Apple. I don’t run a server. I don’t have your email tied to your data. I don’t track anything you tap inside the app. There’s nothing for me to sell.
Tell me. After you sign up I send a 90-second survey, and the open-text answers shape v1.1. The roadmap stays public.
Not in v1. iPhone only. The widgets, weather alerts, and iCloud sync that make Greenroot useful are all built specifically for Apple. Rebuilding them on Android would be another 8-week project. If 2,000+ people on the waitlist ask for Android, I’ll consider it.
